NAMCO has told fellow video game news site CVG that they are “considering” console exclusive characters for Tekken 6, similar to the Star Wars set up seen in Soulcalibur IV!! Who knows who’ll be showing up?! Read more by following the link below.

Tekken 6 developer Namco is “considering” platform-specific characters for its next beat-em-up instalment, similar to the Star Wars setup used by Soul Calibur IV, the developer has told CVG.
Speaking in an interview in London, game director Katsuhiro Harada said that although development focus is yet to shift from the Arcade version, Namco is already pondering downloadable content for consoles.
“We’re still working on the Arcade version, so there are no concrete plans [for the console versions] at the moment,” Harada said.
When quizzed on the chances of exclusive PS3 and Xbox 360 characters, the Tekken man said it could be quite difficult.
“Of course we would like to have something – as far as downloadable content goes – specific to platform. However on the other hand it is quite difficult to get Microsoft and Sony to sign off on having differences between the platforms,” he said.
“It is something we’re considering, but it is pretty difficult.”
Tekken 6 has just been dated for Autumn 2009.

Also when have any of these damn console specific characters EVER been balanced properly? Put it on both platforms PLEASE just quit trying to turn this into your one and only cash cow. Soul Calibur 4 wasnt the greatest game and the random star wars characters were lame and obviously to pull in more of a crowd towards it. Stating the obvious I know! Also yes it worked but please lets not try to add master chief, Ryu hayabusa and Spawn into these games please (I hope namco didn’t read that). I hope this isn’t the case and this idea gets thrown away. On a side note download-able content pisses me off, games are expensive enough as is and with the economy in such a shitty state I can barely afford bottled water let alone a 60 dollar game(saved for already) AND having to pay for download-able content which wont be anything more than the newest “Halloween tekken costumes” OOOO…gimme a break and release my damn game already, I’m tired of waiting and starting to think this isn’t even worth it anymore.

I used to think that it would’ve been so cool to see Solid Snake in Tekken 6 when it was still SONY-exclusive. Now I don’t know what to think of Namco-Bandai’s recent multiplatform bullshit. If they really cared for their fans, they should’ve just released Tekken 6 EARLY, THEN they could plan on its “expansion packs.” Releasing Tekken 6 on its Bloodline Rebellion format for the console is a really bad executive decision.
Markman is pretty silent.. but i seriously blame bandai for all of this bullshit. Since Namco merged wih them, they made some DUMB ASS choices. I hat e the xbox idea but i grown to except it. Now this whole exclusive bullshit is pointless. There just gonna be band from tournaments and come the following tekken u wont see the character u trained so hard to master there anymore.
We will be releasing Tekken BR on console January 1st 2009 it will include all the tag characters and the terminator..

The reason we want them to “just release it” is because we have been waiting for 4 years. There have been games announced tested and released within that time frame on more than one occasion. We are tired of waiting and some of us havent even played the original Tekken 6 yet. The fans feel betrayed at this point, because of the fact that the company is not even attempting to hide the fact that they are going for the casual gamer and ignoring their hardcore fan base(the ones who bought a damn ps3 just for the new tekken which was supposed to be a launch title). Then they find out its coming out for the xbox, which they already have and shelled out a good chunk of coin for. Also yes having more people would be good for the series but when you throw in console release characters, which have never had a history for being balanced what so ever, it makes the game too easy to lose to someone with no skill. Hell half the major players even so say when asked about Tekken 6 and rage system.
I don’t see why people get so fired up about console exclusive characters. So what if Namco wants to try to make a few extra dollars by pulling in casuals with a familiar character? They are a business after all and not just there to please the hardcore fans. If you don’t like those characters don’t play them. Exclusives are always banned from tournies too. Also, why would anyone buy a PS3 just for Tekken when the game hadn’t even been announced yet? There are also other good exclusives for PS3 so it’s not like you totally wasted your money.
I don’t like the wait either but I can’t see people blaming the 360 for the delay. The arcade version of BR is not even done yet. If the game was PS3 only I would bet that it would still be coming out next fall.
It’s taken them so long to release this damn game that I’ve practically lost interest in Tekken. Last thing I heard about Tekken 6 was that it was “Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection 2”, now with Xtreme brokenness. I think it’s time for the Tekken series to evolve instead of putting in ridiculous crap like “Rage” and extended juggles. Tekken 4 may not have been a fan favourite but it was on the right track. Had they fixed and improved upon Tekken 4’s engine in Tekken 5 (Instead of throwing it out completely), the series might not feel so dated.
That said, Tekken used to be my favourite game series. By the looks of it, it won’t be ever again. And please Namco… don’t do console exclusive characters. I swear, they’ll probably put Ogre on the 360 (Cuz he’s green lulz) and Devil Kazuya on the PS3 so I’ll have to get BOTH versions >.<
listen guys i am gonna say this again the only reason they are insisting on character exclusive for consol is because those exclusive character will be later downloadable later, i ll bet mylife on it, there are two reasons why people are pissed off cuz in terms of story they can come with known characters that have nothing to do with story wich is goging to messed up the story and you cant rely on them to master their moves cuz they probably not gonna show up in tekken7 , second the ps3 games are around 60 bucks but for the most wanted games like tekken,… it will be something it would around 77 or 78 plus taxes, then you go download extra charater several weeks later (just like SCIV) after it release, tottally you have to pay around 100 bucks, and i for one dont thing thats fair at all, this is a rip off…
I agree with tekkenlover.. And I also agree with what many others believe: that this new partnership with Bandai will take a toll on Tekken.. I never agreed with the rage system. And I believe if the rage system will be present that the player should at least have an option of turning it off; I don’t want help winning, I wanna win on my own.. I think item moves are pointless;this is Tekken..” iron FIST”..not Soul Calibur..NO weapons..NO bats or gattling guns..and Xiaoyus wand trick gets old quick.. Item moves seem to take too long to execute, slowing down the gameplay , and do barely any damage; they’re pointless…In my opinion the characters arent balanced enough either. I think of all the new character Leo is the most balanced…I’m already angered at the fact that the game is on the 360 now, but now they consider console exclusive characters?.. I will never forgive Namco if they do that… The best choice they’ve made so far was the addition of online play..and when are they gonna put tekken force and tag back in?.. As long as I’ve waited for this game they better have one of the two.

Namco is making TONS of money off the arcade release and they DO NOT want to displease arcade owners like they did with Tekken 5 arcade/console release.
Here’s some history for you.
Tekken 6 will retire from it’s initial release in Nov. 2007 until Dec. 2008 as the only game in Arcadia history to finish #1 in the ranking EACH and every month. This ranking is based on revenue reports submitted by the largest network of arcade/game rooms in Japan.
Tekken 6 beat out ALL comers, including Melty Blood: AA, Virtua Fighter 5R, GUNDAM, and even Street Fighter IV. None of those games even came close to Tekken 6.
Before you accuse me of being a Microsoft fan or having them as my ‘favorite.’ If you guys think Namco is hurting their fanbase, get off your high horse. Namco is making a business decision, you will buy the game anyways when it comes out, if you don’t, you shouldn’t be part of the ‘fan-base’…

I’m italian, in my psnetwork I don’t even know what chapter of tekken I have to expect: there’s nothing about tekken 6 not even a trailer or a wallpaper. instead 360 owners after the official confirm of tekken 6 going on xbox they had the next day a tekken 6 trailers that european psnetwork still don’t have! namco forget also about us or expect that I’ll wait until they discover that I’m here waiting for 4 years?

Tekken 6 was developed on PS3 architecture, so what the hell are you talking about? If anything the X-Box 360 conversion should be out after the PS3 version is released.
Since there are 6 new characters in both T6 and BR combined, I just hope that they don’t decide to split them up for both consoles, like 3 characters on the PS3 and 3 for the Xbox. I doubt that would happen, but that would really suck.

i think its time namco went back to basics. being a professional games reviewer myself i felt that releasing yoda and darth vader on soul calibur was just a gimmick.

Tell me that was sarcasm.. please. Namco failed to make money from the Tekken 5 – Tekken 5 DR sales area because of their own mistake. It was THEIR OWN FAULT for releasing Tekken 5 DR 4 months after Tekken 5 was release on MAJOR CABINETS. I have ZERO sympathy for Namco. Namco is purposefully DENYING the release of Tekken 6 and BR arcade machines. Now, we have to be delayed AGAIN because they want to do an XBOX release that is absolutely POINTLESS. This type of thinking got Namco in the gutter when Tekken 4 came out. Namco SHOULD listen to their fan base because the FANS are what MADE THE GAME POPULAR, and MADE THE IMPORTANT SUGGESTIONS FOR THE GAME. (EG: Tekken 3, Tekken Tag).
If Namco’s decisions were best in their business, they would be taking more suggestions from US. I have seen more talk and want for quicker release in the years of Tekken 6 more than when Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag were in developement. Namco’s get-rich-quick schemes are going to end up making poor. The fans are obviously saying (even in Japan) that its time to FINISH the game up.

I may be a 360 owner (and a PS3 owner as well) so tbh when i heard that both consoles are gonna have T6, people started flaming which was obvious but when I heard that it might have console exclusive material, thats where I draw the line >:( I may be a 360 fanboy but I love the PS3 as well and i think both should have equal content (ok maybe the DLC may be different but like all characters should be avalable to both consoles) This is where Namco has lost its mind @_@
If they ever plan to do console exclusive, it better be a non-canon character list (like Yoda/Darth Vader in the SC4 franchise) but NEVER EVER make the main Tekken characters (and the new ones) split to consoles.

Another thing is that you can’t get (much) the cool High Def. graphics on XBOT because unlike PS3 (which uses blu-ray disc unlike DVD on XBOT) there won’t be enough room to store HD graphics on DVD (4.7GB vs, 25-50 GB on blu-ray). I don’t even like the way the XBOT controller looks like so how can you make me play the game on XBOT?

About that “Console Exclusive Characters”: Why can’t they have ALL of the characters available on both consoles? This is just so pathetically hateful. Who knows, you might be surprised that the XBOT got the best of PS3; a lot can happen but it’s not impossible, especially that XBOT users of the US throw $#!+ off PS3 users that not only PS3 is left behind in total sales, but also the game exclusivity of PS3 made available to XBOT360.
If there are going to be console-exclusive characters, it has to be Tekken-based.
For example: (Combot, Angel, Kunimitsu, etc..)
If you are going to make console-exclusive characters, make them only for the PS3.
xbot already have there exclusive with GTA4.

It’s a shame you don’t realize that more characters means more replayability. Namco doesn’t care how much you complain, you’ll still all buy whatever game they feel like slapping the word Tekken on. Hypocrites.
