No, we’re not talking about Tekken 5 DR or Tekken 3. We’re talking about a Tekken game so out there that few of us have been privileged enough to lay our hands on it.
That’s, right, the game is Tekken Tag Turbo.
Check below for more info!
As part of my study abroad in Japan my third year in college, I stayed in Tokyo at the end of the summer in 2000.
As fate would have it, I was lucky enough to take a peek at a tournament dubbed the Jurio Cup, in which many veteran Tekken players from around the area competed in.
Of course, this was around the time when TTT had degenerated into a game where ogres, devils, and triple knee combos had taken over the arena, so needless to say, many of us found some respite in a game that Namco Japan had brought out for the duration of the event.
So what is Tekken Tag Turbo? Just imagine Tekken Tag Tournament on speed — the gameplay was at least twice as fast, move properties were tweaked around, and you could tag in and out of tag combos like it was MvC2 or DoA.
The best part? Ganryu flies in the air and shoots invisible laser beams.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, I’m not sure how many words some short video clips will be, but take a look… and be amazed!

They really should have a “turbo” option for the next console release of a Tekken game…
