Tekken 6 has arrived in North America! Well… Kinda sorta. Popular gaming centre, Lovegetty Station in Toronto, Canada has TWO Tekken 6 arcade units and the Canadian Tekken scene is bursting with excitement! The arcade has two machines set up of the latest Japanese version of Tekken 6 and is already attracting competition from all over! Tekken 6 Hands On Report

Well today, I got extensive testing on Tekken 6 at our arcade (Lovegetty Station) in Toronto, Canada.

I have to say, I’m not totally disappointed with Tekken 6 – alot of negative comments on the message board, but in all honesty this game is identical to DR in almost all ways.

Of course there’s the good and the bad.

So I’ll start with the bad.

Movement
The backdash has been NERFED, I don’t care what anyone else says but now backdash canceling barely covers any distance at all. Your not gonna be doing insane turtling away, cause the opponent catches up instantly.

Sidewalk & Sidestep
Sidewalk is the same but I think SS covers less distance now. That’s pretty much the only difference I’ve felt in that aspect.

Juggle System
Bounce, what more can I say. The juggles are SERIOUSLY long, you literally have to put your arms aside and watch the opponent carry you. It’s become quite tedious, but it’s exciting. I don’t know what to think of it – because in all honesty, it creates more opportunities for your opponent to mess up. But considering the fact that this game is relatively new – I can’t wait to see what kind of stuff KYSG and other combo video makers come up with. All I can say is, Tekken 6 Juggles in the future are going to be nuts. It’s gonna be some amazing stuff.

Damage
Damage is the same as DR, it’s not different. The combos look longer, but the damage is relatively the same. The only difference is, I expect the damage to increase in the future as more and more juggles/combos are discovered. It seems to be a scary thought, because of people doing 50% combos right now. But who knows? More patches might help I guess.

Rage, here’s the big topic that everyone loves to discuss – bitch about. Haha, I know I’ll probably not say it’s all gravy but this system is like a new “crush system” you really feel bad if you get hurt, but again it’s not THAT bad. I didn’t experience anything that made me mad. (I usually get mad fast lol) Yes, the damage does increase, people can do come backs. It happened to me once, out of a possible 20+ games? I think it will change how people play the game, I just don’t know how yet.

Stages
The stages are f****** amazing! So bright, and colorful. Namco always excels in the graphics department, and Tekken 6 doesn’t fail.

Character Specific Impressions
Devil Jin – This guy is a new style breed of DJ we know from DR. Now he punishes -12 moves HARD, be on the look out. I think alot of people will hate him because of how easy he’s become to use. I’m a technical player, but after seeing his juggles and his punishment – it’s safe to say he’s becoming wayyyy less technical now.

Kazuya Mishima – Another beastly character who now has stronger mid strings thanks to the df+1 series being NC. Also having b+1 to punish -12 moves – wall splatting – having super good range – hit confirmable – and doing damage like axe kicks. Ouch namco, you love my characters so much? Haha. Expect more casual players picking up Mishimas now – at least that’s the way I feel.

Paul Phoenix – Paul is really beefed imo, he seems alot alot safer with all his pokes. Hell, I was shocked to see his d+4 JF hitting twice in one combo but that’s how T6 works – and it really helps Paul. Of course I don’t know much with him compared to Mishimas, but I was holding my own.

Ganryu – OMG, df+2 is messssed up now. That move feels so useless, I don’t know what to think of it. d+1+2 goes into the grab and seems to be better – but I don’t know. It doesn’t keep the pressure on like DR d+1+2 though. Df+3 is the same, but I think it pushes back the opponent slightly more. I have to test more though.

Feng Wei – Feng has the staple DR juggle which bounces, into crazy pickup. I was trying the juggle posted in the JPN videos, but I didn’t land it. Again only a few hours of playing. But tons of potential in the character. :)

Raven – ff+3 is SO good now, it guarantees Raven 3 knees in the juggle. and does amazing carry. It’s quite quick, crushes lows since he’s air born. Really beefed up. He has the abusable poke f+2,3? It’s good and safe now I believe. Abusive.. also df+3 completely safe. So now throw out more often than you do in DR for that lucky CH into full life =/

Zafina – I got owned by this bitch, she’s got so many cheesy low attacks! Her low AOP type stance is hard to hit, and she’s got knockdown attacks from it that have to be guarded well. I lost like 5 times to Neorussell’s Zafina, but I believe with more time and game play she becomes predictable. Need to play more…

Didn’t get to use Bob and Leo cause the machine is fucking expensive $1 a game (that’s like $1.10 USD? haha) I couldn’t play more than 20 games. I will play more in the future though.

That’s about it for now – Tekken 6 overall is just a fun fun game, but competitively speaking I don’t know how it’ll last. The game has too much back and forths, but it’s not a different game. DR’s brother, version 2 with updated graphics and physics.
