SD TEKKEN Comic-Con Wrap Up!

Comic-Con 2008 is in the books! Thank you to everyone who helped out with the SD TEKKEN console gaming room! We’d like to also give a special thanks to Games On and Aksys Games for their generous sponsorship and support! Without great companies like them, we might not be able to bring the wonderful gaming experience at events like SDCC! Click below to check our full review of SD TEKKEN at this year’s Comic-Con!

SD TEKKEN began the Comic-Con festivities early Thursday morning… We arrived at the San Diego Convention Center around 6 AM and began setting up our gaming room for four days of competition and fun! We initially planned on having more TVs and consoles but decided to condense our equipment stash at the last second for security reasons. Regardless of the outcome we had a really good turn out, in fact the best amount of traffic we’ve ever had in our 7 year history of running the gaming room!

Thursday morning setup drills in room 17B!

On the first day of the convention we held a tournament for Super Smash Bros. Brawl! The reception we received was amazing! We had a healthy line outside of our room prior to starting sign ups and eventually the interest in our event was so large we had to extend the 64 player limit to accommodate a full 128 man bracket!

The calm before the storm, the Super Smash Bros. Brawl tournament!

The crowd was hyped for some tournament action, so much in fact, we were warned by the fire marshal that the crowd was getting too big in the gaming room and we would have to have everyone file in and sit down in order to keep things under control! It took awhile, but after all was said and done we had our set of winners!

Top placers from the Super Smash Bros. Brawl tournament! L-R; John Yochim (Tied for 3rd place), Robert Wilcox (1st place), OATS (2nd place), Kristofer Shirley (Tied for 3rd place)!

Our winners received an assortment of games and goodies from our gracious sponsor, Aksys Games. Congrats to the winners!

On day two we held our Rock Band “Battle of the Bands” sponsored by San Diego’s premier gaming store, Games On! Around 20 bands consisting of 4 members each entered the competition and after hours of musical nirvana we finally crowned a group of winners!

The winning band will receive a copy of Rock Band 2 for the console of their choice when it is released, courtesy of Games On! Congratulations to the winners!

Day three we held the 7th annual Tekken tournament! This year the game played was Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection! We had just over 50 entrants and after a grueling set of battles from competitors all over the United States we finally crowned a winner!

Top placers from the Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection tournament! L-R; Nerenatwah (2nd Place), Kankuro (3rd Place), n8nmonster (4th place), AlexMan (front; 1st Place)!

The top four placers received a number of games and gifts from Aksys Games, including some exclusive Guilty Gear 2 Overture swag amongst other recent Aksys hit titles! Congratulations to SD TEKKEN for taking top four!

SD TEKKEN was very happy with the turnout each day for our console gaming room!  We’d like to thank Ken Kendal, gaming coordinator for San Diego Comic-Con International, for always supporting us these last 7 years! Thank you to everyone that stopped by and spent some time in the gaming room, we hope to see you again next year!

reppuken, Hideo Kojima, and Ace R. hanging out at the end of Comic-Con Thursday night.

This year we were lucky enough to meet and hang out with some very great people in the gaming industry.  Among the gaming industry’s elite in attendance were: Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear series creator), Yoji Shinkawa (Metal Gear series art director), Yoshinori Ono (Producer for Street Fighter IV), Keiji Inafune (Mega Man, Lost Planet), and many more!

SD TEKKEN didn’t stop there though… Elsewhere during Comic-Con, SDT began to expand it’s reach into other gaming and geeky indulgences.  Down at the exhibit hall floor in the Capcom area, our very own NerenatwaH battled hard during the Street Fighter IV tournament of champions held on the final day of SDCC.  NerenatwaH faced fierce competition against the best of the best players that represented during the mini SF IV tournaments held every morning during SDCC.  When all was said and done, NerenatwaH ended up placing very well with his Ryu, earning himself 4th place in the tournament of champions!

Capcom and Street Fighter IV were in full effect during the Comic-Con!

Our very own AlexMan participated in Konami’s Metal Gear Online Tournament, which went on from Thursday until Saturday during SDCC.  MLG did an excellent job running the event. Hundreds of gamers participated in hopes of winning the coveted $1500 cash prize and a signed Limited Edition Metal Gear Solid 4 Gun Metal PLAYSTATION 3 console, signed by both series creator Hideo Kojima and series artist Yoji Shinkawa.

The winner of the Metal Gear Online tournament may have won a PS3 like this, but it’s alright we have our own for ourselves, :P

AlexMan battled hard through the 3 days of gaming and ended up placing a very respectable 4th during the final round.  During the main event 4 vs 4 battle between the top 8 players, the blue team (AlexMan was on) ended up taking the crown after a fierce hour long battle!  Congratulations AlexMan!

Speaking of Metal Gear.  Another important project took place during Comic-Con 2008.  fast_handsCODY was on a mission.  The return of the ‘Les Enfant Terribles’ project, popularized by the cloning of Big Boss which eventually led to the birth of Solidus, Liquid and Solid Snake, took place AGAIN, this time cloning the legendary soldier… CODY “KID MATADORU” of the SH clan.  I think the results speak for themselves…

Solid Cody and Solidus Cody (Rocko from MEGA 64).

Special thanks to all of the people who took part in the return of the ‘Les Enfant Terribles 2008‘ project!

This is the closest we were able to get of a group picture for this year, thanks everyone who showed up and helped! Watch out for the lil’ guy in the glasses, front row 3rd from the end. He is a registered sex offender.

Thank you everyone in SD TEKKEN and our friends/family for all the support and help during Comic-Con!  See you next year!

There is a big Tekken 6 tournament taking place next week in Japan. Super Battle Opera, Tougeki 2008. Players from both Korea and Japan will be participating.

Leedy, Knee, and qudans are all in military service right now. Mainstreet Ryu retired from Tekken after the 5 vs 5 Gansou Cup a few years ago. Nidaime Mainstreet Ryu still plays but he won’t be attending SBO from what I hear…

I’m going to let you in on a little time sensitive secret. I won’t go into all the details because you should just see the page and watch the video to get the whole scoop. Basically, this is an underground software that you simply have to see to believe. Obviously, this is a tactic that has never been seen before. Don’t let the simplicity fool you. This software is powerful enough that it can generate 4 figure incomes. You should go to the page right now before it is taken down -> http://tinyurl.com/chdiscount
