Tidbits from the latest issue of Famitsu magazine are showing up on popular gaming forum, NeoGAF… One of the reviews for this week is for a little game called TEKKEN 6! While we don’t have the detailed portion of the review, we do want to share the score. If you don’t want to be spoiled, do not click below! How are Famitsu reviews calculated?
Video games are graded in Famitsū by a panel of four video game reviewers. Each reviewer gives a score from zero to ten (ten being best). The scores of the four reviewers are then added up with a possible score of forty. – Wikipedia article on Famitsu
Past TEKKEN scores:
- Tekken 5 – 9, 9, 9, 9 = 36
- Tekken 4 – 9, 9, 9, 9 = 36
- Tekken Tag Tournament – 9, 9, 10, 10, = 38
- Tekken 3 – 10, 10, 10, 9 = 39
As you can see, TEKKEN 6 has the lowest cumlative total for the series to date, however readers should not neglect the fact that each review is done by an individual person and that each stand alone score is very high, in that regard.

Ha! I knew it was gonna suck butt. “Oh, please pay attention to our amazing and brilliant Scenario Campaign which is definitely not just Devil Within with a fresh coat of jaggies”. Yeah, when they started pushing the Scenario Campaign as the reason to buy Tekken 6 I knew they were in trouble.
First that godawful SCIV and now this? Thanks Bamco, for driving the last nail into the fighting genre’s coffin. It was fun while it lasted.

Well, since I’m not a gazillionaire who can go around buying every game I lay my eyes on just because “I hope it’ll be good”, I have to rely on good word of mouth and good reviews…well, actually considering my financial situation I can’t even settle for “good reviews”, it has to get amazing reviews (like Uncharted 2) for me to even consider buying it.
If Namco had spent more time making the game better and wasted less time on this retarded campaign scenario (and instead used those resources to add a tag team battle mode like DOA4), they’d be getting better reviews and Tekken 6 would be at the top of my wishlist for ’09.

Another hater, lol – while the score isn’t the max one, it’s still good. Scenario Capaign is just a bonus mode (and a really nice one to get cash and custom stuff). Why are you complaining, really?
SCIV is a great game – T6 is even better. And you don’t even played Scenario Campaign yet, so your statements are pretty dull.
Famitsu kinda failed for not judging the fighting game aspect of T6 (balanced, in-depth gameplay – with new add-ons like bound and rage, etc) – I guess they focused too much on Scenario Campaign – an aspect who isn’t the principal focus of T6. The fighting is.
Well yeah, they focussed on it (SC) because that’s the only thing Namco is talking about when they preview the game. Go ahead search for any Tekken 6 preview and you’ll quickly discover, to your horror, that they don’t talk about anything other than Scenario Campaign.
Say what you will. Tekken 3 and Tekken 5 got great reviews (I’m talking about all reviews not just Famitsu) because they were great games. Tekken 4 got shit reviews because…yeah, you guessed it the game was crap. If this game was on the same level as 3 and 5 it would get similar reviews, since it isn’t I’m guessing it won’t.
Oh and P.S. you liked Soul Calibur IV? Yeah, that kinda says it all.

Well since you played it and gave it good reviews. I’d take your word since your a T6 player like us. Not just some average joe. Who cares what everyone else says. It’s like worrying over someone saying that VF is better then Tekken. I’m excited as can be, I just don’t like the low health bars.

LOL I don’t follow Famitsu, but damn, by the looks of the reviews you just posted, it says alot. For one, BlazBlue BARELY squeeks by a horrid KOFXII, and second of all it just seems like they aren’t too big of fighting fans in a general sense. Like Ashesfall said, Bayonetta got an 40/40 and that game seems nothing more than Devil May Cry with more fan service.
First of all, Bayonetta is about 30 times better than DMC3/DMC4 combined. Second of all, Tekken’s score is good. Third, whether the score is good or not is a moot point because Famitsu is a big pile of garbage.
They gave Final Fantasy 12 a perfect score…Nuff said.

Seriously, the scores Tekken 6 received from Famitsu are damn good. Having these comparison scores from other top-notch (and perhaps, not so top-notch) fighting games help put things into perspective a bit better.
Tekken 6 will rock, plain and simple. I look forward to further praise that T6 will inevitably receive.

In craft and quality, I still believe that Tekken 6 is the pinnacle of the series. It’s no revolution, but an excellent evolution of the franchise. Best Tekken ever, but that’s just my opinion. ^_^
It is the best Tekken… but most reviewers minds don’t think like the minds of fighting game fans. They don’t look a the intricacies of a fighting game. But that’s casuals for ya… if it’s not a music game, adventure game, or FPS… they really don’t know how to review it.

To understand and play a fighting game is very very difficult.
Most reviewers play platform games, shooters or music games. Therefore they don’t know much about what makes a fighting game great.
To get an honest opinion about fighting games, you have to go to the community and talk to people who lives and breathes fighting games (aka Markman). They are not fanboys to a spesific console and they give you the real opinion!

4 was good man, i loved 4, Jin got a new style, it had the Best story out of all tekkens, if anything it helped push the story forward more than any other tekken did.
in tekken 5 you didnt knwo WTF was going on at the end. the majority were all joke endings. the endigs for T4 help the story be fleshed out more and you knew the direction it was going in.
if the story sucked in 4 the intro for 5 wouldn’t be a continuation of the T4 ending.
not only that, but wre just now coming back to the serious side of tekken with T6.
BG…Are you kidding? Tekken 4’s story/endings SUUUUUCKKKEED. The game was just a gigantic (clumsy)retcon frenzy. Devil Gene? That term should never have existed. Adding vocal dialogue to the endings was also and awful move, because it took away the sense of grace and mysticism that the older games had. I mean T3 had ONE vocal ending- and it was obviously done just for style. I still really like it, but T4 is the worst Tekken easily.

I just checked every major reviewer site I know and there aren’t any reviews other than Play UK which gave it a 94%, Famitsu which gave it a 34/40.

So far no major on trustworthy reviews have been out. Play Uk and Famitsu are alright but I expect a 9 or higher from websites like IGN, Gamespot, PSXEtreme and so on. They should get real fighting pros to review tekken not some button mashing noobs. No review will stop me from getting this game, it’s what you think matters not what others think.

IMO, Tekken gets better with every game that comes out. Namco has not disapointed me yet. At the moment DR is the best (for about one more week,lol). I have not even touched Tekken 6 yet and I was unsure if it could surpass DR,at first. But after 2+ years of watching videos and getting more info on the game I’m sure Tekken 6 will live up to this massive hype. VenoM362 is looking for IGN and Gamespot to give Tekken 6 a 9.0-9.5. The only thing needed to make this game perfect imo is custom soundtracks and tag battle. If Tekken 6 doesn’t get between a 9-10 from most of these review sites, 1: they don’t know SHIT about fighting games 2: THEY CAN EAT A DONKEY DICK!!!

They have yet to dissapoint me as well.
Even though people didnt like T4 i loved it, for the story and because Jin had a new fighting style and they brought back my main guy from T2 Kaz.
i remember being at a gamestop talking to a couple fo my friends up there and we were talking about T4 and we popped it in and just started playing.
While they were on the Clock LOL.
i whipped the floor wiht them, but it was still fun. cause it was a spur of the moment type thing.

These scores are all wrong… After reading these theyve lost almost all creditably in my book.
Tekken 4 and 5 were in no way equal … In my opinion T5 was the most well rounded Tekken to date… It shouldve gotten the 39 T3 received … And TTT was superior to T3 …It shouldve at least gotten a 39 too (if not higher than T3 )… I believe there maybe be a few faults in T6, so maybe a non perfect score is fitting , but the exact score may be off after reviewing how inaccurately theyve scored the others… But to rate T4 and T5 the same; i can only describe that as ignorant.

Totally agree. The jump from Tekken 2 to Tekken 3 was pretty big. A lot of the gameplay was changed (useless high jumps taken away, speed of recoveries were faster, tech rolls, USEFUL SIDESTEPS, combos did less damage per hit, allowing longer fights and more strategic play, better graphics) to bring faster, smarter play. Even the extras that were put into the home version was pretty good and I had fun with Tekken Ball and the 2-dish Final Fight like Tekken Force.
I do wish for a updated Tekken Tag Tournament with more Character-Relation Tag Combos. Law/Paul’s tag-in was sweet.
Tekken 3 was revolutionary for its time, but in my opinion it is no longer the best Tekken to date…In my opinion T5 was the modern day equivalent to T3…Despite sales or scores i still say Tekken 5 definitely exceeded Tekken 3 as a game in general.
And maybe Tekken 6 may have a few faults here and there but im still positive its exceeds T3…and it definitely exceeds T4 as opposed to their obviously inaccurate scoring.

No way man, we can agree to disagree, but it did move the story forward, the devil gene has been around since tekken 2, it didnt start with tekken 4.
and yes it did help move the Mishima / Kazama story forward, why do you think they used Jins ending from T4 as the CG intro for T5 ??
T5 ws very vague on who won the tournament, the majority of the CG ending were just Random. when you see jins ending you think, well its just aother ending there was no emphasis on his ending ,that this would be the ending to go with.
T4 made it very clear and intresting , and i loved how they tied Jin’s/ Kazuyas/ Heihachis story all together at Honmaru. very well done endings in my OP.

why do you think at the end of T3 Heihachi turned on Jin after he Defeated Ogre. He wanted the Devil Gene.

While it’s off by only one point, you might want to correct the score now that it’s been fixed at that same post on NeoGAF used as the source. 9, 8, 8, 8 –> 33/40.
1Up has a snippet of the review. Famitsu praises the huge roster and the dynamic gameplay, but finds the Scenario Campaign action bland.
I really don’t see how an extra console mode can impact the score so much, when it’s just over and above the expected. What does this tell devs? Don’t do too much extra stuff, it will only bring down your score, so just do safe crap (like SFIV).
I hope Project Tekken doesn’t let these reviews affect their work. These idiot hacks can go to hell, Tekken 6 is awesome and we fans know it. It’s left to us to spread the word from here on in, people. That’s all I have to say about that… ’cause the Lone Gamer said so… ^_^
Well, it seems pretty obvious to me. If the extra console mode is bland and then you shove a core mode (story) from past games into it (along with the bonuses of extra money and items), forcing players to stomach the bland mode first (and hardly making it an “extra” anymore), whether they wanted to play the bland mode or not, they aren’t going to like it and criticize it. And rightly so. I never wanted to play Scenario Campaign and I sure as heck didn’t want to HAVE to play it just so I can finally see the character endings. That is what I’m dreading most about getting this game next week.
As convenient and easy as the Story mode was, it was nothing save a prologue, cutscene and ending. That’s really not much to it. If that was all you want, then play arcade mode.
I applaud the effort that went into Scenario Campaign because (1) It has more room to tell the story in detail (2) It lets you play with the characters in a context or manner different from the rest of the game, while still letting you basically play and practice your character’s skills so playing this mode isn’t a waste of time. (3) You can earn fight money and items far faster in this mode as well.
Just the effort that went into SC is admirable- they DIDN’T need to do this guys, but they did it anyway. I find it alarming that a lot of players see this as a chore- it’s a GAME, dudes. You’re supposed to have fun with it.
I find it bad that SC is being zeroed in as the cause of a low score since this may prevent any more innovation in future games, regardless of it was good or bad- if the devs are penalized for going above and beyond the expected, then what will that herald for future games?
Straight ports, no frills. Is that what we want? NO. I for one want Project Tekken and Harada to keep on doing what they do, learning but still always pushing the boundary and always working to give us more. That’s all.
In short… dudes, play Scenario Campaign first, maybe you’ll enjoy it. If it really sucks, then say so. But play the thing first.

IN T5-DR Story,Arcade and Ghost were all basically the same thing its nice to flesh out the story in a fresh way and really get to buisness online. Nobody is Forcing u to play SC mode. If u want to learn the story and see the endings and are soo appalled by SC mode go to Tekkenpedia and Youtube, Im sure that would be much better than actually playing and having fun while using every move and combo u do in VS mode. C’mon guys enough with all the hate already..seriously.
As for reviewers..dont trust them even if u are broke as hell Im sure u can scrape together 8 bucks to rent a game and try it for yourself or u wouldn’t be playing PS3-XBOX in the first place. When it comes down to it everybody has their own opinion..dont be a sheep.

A friend of mine told me this morning that T6 leaked for the 360…and some guy he knows is handing them out. ( Itll be playable in the student lounge at my school by noon today )
Just to confirm I checked online and one site claims that the leaked version mayve been downloaded over 50,000 times by the time of their posting.
