One of the largest TEKKEN 6 international single competitions up-to-date has come to an end. Undoubtedly hiring FilthieRich as the Major League Gaming Tekken Tournament Director was a bull’s eye. Read out the rest of the entry for the MLG Orlando details!
A majority players put their faith in the game last month when both WCG and MLG announced that they were going to include TEKKEN 6 in their main events. It was a great step in moving TEKKEN closer to professional gaming.
GM, chetchetty, Aris, bronsontran, Fab, KOR, MYK, Rip, JustFrameJames, BloodRed, JTchinoy, The Game, POKCHOP, real law, Lingmassacre, The Realyst, Suiken, Mr. NAPS, Blood-Hawk – it is rare to see this many great TEKKEN 6 American players in one place, fighting for the champion’s title. Major League Gaming succeeded in gathering them up in Orlando, along with Rain and Holeman from South Korea, as well as Juie and Jade, top players from Thailand.
The objective sounded easy: eliminate all the rivals and be crowned as the first Major League Gaming Pro Circuit Champion. During the tournament it became cleare that it only sounded that way. A majority of matches was stiff and last for 5 long fights: Aris vs. Naoki, Lingmassacre vs. The Game and GM vs. Holeman are only the few examples.
In one of the matches not showed through the live stream, Fab from the New York City using Miguel managed to beat Rain, letting him use three different characters: Bob, Bruce and Miguel. Nevertheless, none of them helped him winning a single fight, making the result 0:3 and sending the Korean to Losers Bracket. The fight between Fab and Rain proved that the gap between American and Korean players is getting smaller and smaller every tournament and might have put a lot of faith in the American players.
Having lost to Holeman in the Winners Bracket, the well-known Texas player, Crow, had to face against his earlier rival’s buddy from Korea, Rain. It’s common knowledge that the history repeats itself and this was another fact confirming it, because the 2005 and 2006 Evolution Champion fought against two Korean players in a row earlier this year, during NorCal Strongstyle in late January. This time, however, Crow didn’t lose two matches in a row. He came out winning against Rain and eliminated the Korea’s 2nd TEKKEN 6 arcade Tekken God from the tournament.
The Winners Final was a duel between Holeman and KOR. The former managed to beat Texas player and advanced to the Grand Final, however, it wasn’t supposed to be their last fight on that day.
Holeman was waiting for his opponent, who was going to be choosen from Suiken and his two earlier opponents, Crow and KOR. SoCal’s famous Lei player, who was using the new MadCatz’s SSF TE stick in Orlando, lost against Crow, making it 1:1 in the Suiken vs. Complexity Gaming duel due to the fact that a moment earlier Suiken’s Lei eliminated Mr. NAPS. Given that, KOR and Crow were the only two American MLG Orlando Champion title candidates. The Evo champion started with Steve, however, having lost two first fights, he switched to his second character, Bob. After a very close “head-belly” u/f+1+2,1+2 match from both sides the result went 2:1 and KOR decided to use Lars instead. At first it didn’t seem to be a good decision, however, he succeeded in getting two straight wins. USA vs. Korea final was going to start in 15 minutes.
The Grand Final started with a 3:1 result in Holeman’s favor because of his earlier match against KOR. The Texas player managed to win the first fight but failed in the second. Then, however, he got the momentum and thanks to 3 consecutive wins he became the first MLG Pro Circuit winner, as well as the first American player who stopped a Korean pro from winning a TEKKEN 6 tournament. That’s how the legend was born.
RESULTS:
1. Gmma.KOR (Bob, Lars)
2. Holeman (Lars) [South Korea]
3. Complexity.Crow (Steve, Bob)
4. Suiken (Lei)
5. NYC Fab (Miguel)
6. JustFrameJames (Law)
7. Mr. NAPS (Bryan)
8. BRIAN_NICHOLS (Kuma)
American players have been training hard for the past few months and it payed off. Today lots of them proven to be very solid with Fab, Crow and KOR being able to win against the Koreans.
The MLG Orlando TEKKEN 6 competition is not over yet, so be sure to tune in to Major League Gaming live stream tomorrow at 10AM EST to watch how the best players of Saturday’s single event will do along with their teammates in the first MLG TEKKEN 6 3v3 team tournament.
I am happy for the USA <3

this result surely prove negative sentiments against koreans in US turney are false
glad to see crow, flies again
Congratulations to all the participants. Thank you for bringing us such a fantastic tournament. I believe that MLG Orlanndo single competition was the best I’ve watched on any stream. I wish I had been in Orlando.
I couldn’t believe my eyes while I was watching KOR’s Bob dominating with so much skill involved. He simply knew what he was doing, even when sitching to Lars, although I believe that his Bob is much buch better then the Mishima of Sweden.
I’m looking forward to watching the team event and am wondering whether ot not it is going to be mainly Texas vs. Korea show again.
Thanks so much to Di for putting this summary together <3
Congratulations to all the players!! This truly is amazing news
Yeah, great summary. It’s a shame that one of the highlights of the tournament (Fab vs Rain) was not on stream O_o
I didnt get a chance to check out the grand finals..Is the stream archived somewhere?
“…and that’s how a legend was born.”

Is KOR winning an upset? Except for the fact that he beat a Korean has he always been a top player?
I don’t follow Tekken and when ever I watch a tournament I don’t see him in top placings which is why I ask. ^_^
Just wondering did anyone else see fab ocv team korea after the grand finals were over. Props to him.
Sony has been advertising T6 alot on psn recently!
So Lars players take the first 2 spots I see.
Kor played Bob the majority of the time. I think he played Lars only against Crow, although I’m not certain of the rest of the tournament.
GREAT.

I wasn’t sure if Jade was participating.
yeah, jade was definitely there. he is in the brackets as jadey.

How did the event do financially though? It would be great to hear that it had lots of spectators, etc, ensuring the continuation of Tekken in MLG
